Gym Map

North Gym

BRG’s North Gym is the core of the BRG complex. At roughly 13,000 sq ft, it’s the largest of BRG’s facilities. It serves as the main entry point for Bend Rock Gym. It hosts our front desk where we facilitate all member and guest check in, point of sale, and back of house operations. Below is a more in-depth overview of the facility and its features:

  • 50ft Walls (13,000 sq ft)
  • 200 Lead, Top Rope and Autobelay Routes (Set Weekly)
  • 13 Autobelays
  • 3 artificial cracks for crack climbing practice

West Gym

BRG’s West Gym is our newest complex. At 11,000 sq ft, the West Gym houses dynamic bouldering terrain, comprehensive fitness amenities, and elite climbing training amenities to take your climbing to the next level. To access the West Gym, one must be a member or punch card holder at BRG.

South Gym

BRG’s South Gym was the original BRG building when the business was founded in 2010. At roughly 7,000 sq ft, it’s the home of half of BRG’s bouldering and autobelay terrain. Our amazing setters work hard everyday to reset our routes every 2 months. Come project and send!  Below is a more in-depth overview of the facility and its features.

Top Rope Testing Procedure

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY BRG

Climbers and belayers must demonstrate full control while climbing/belaying. 

Bend Rock Gym reserves the right to not pass an individual at any time, for any reason.

Climbing Portion

  1. Climber must demonstrate how to properly tie a Figure-8 Follow-Through knot
  2. Climber must demonstrate their harness is on properly
  3. Climber will climb to 3rd quickdraw and ask for a “take”
  4. Climber will climb to 6th quickdraw and take an unannounced fall
  5. Climber must demonstrate proper safety checks for belayer setup

Belaying Portion

  1. Belayer must use an appropriate belay device – ask staff if your device qualifies
  2. Belayer must properly load belay device
  3. Belayer must belay from the appropriate side of rope
  4. Belayer must demonstrate awareness of shared TR / lead routes
  5. Belayer must demonstrate proper safety checks for climber setup
  6. Belayer must demonstrate taking in slack with the P.B.U.S or Slip Slap Slide (with a default downward braking position) 
  7. Belayer must safely “take” the climber and catch a fall
  8. Belayer must demonstrate the ability to lower the climber in a safe and controlled manner
  9. Belayer must know appropriate verbal climbing commands 

Lead Climbing/Belaying Testing Procedure


Climbers and belayers must demonstrate full control while climbing / belaying. Bend Rock Gym reserves the right to not pass an individual at any time, for any reason.

Climbing Portion – **Climber must test on a 5.10- or higher grade** 

  1. Climber must properly tie a figure 8 follow through knot
  2. Climber must double check the belayer’s harness and belay setup
  3. Climber must explain a Back-Clip and Z-Clip and the dangers of both
  4. Climber must demonstrate awareness of shared TR / lead routes
  5. Climber must show proficient clipping technique
  6. Climber must be aware of where their legs and feet are in relation to the climbing rope
  7. Climber must know appropriate verbal climbing commands

Belaying Portion

  1. Belayer must use an appropriate belay device – ask staff if your device qualifies
  2. Belayer must demonstrate how to properly set up a rope /  belay device for lead climbing
  3. Belayer must double check the climber’s harness and knot
  4. Belayer must demonstrate appropriate slack management, particularly on the first few draws 
  5. Belayer must demonstrate taking in slack using the P.B.U.S technique and show control with the brake hand
  6. Belayer must maintain an appropriate proximity to the wall while belaying 
  7. Belayer must safely catch a fall(s).
  8. Belayer must know appropriate verbal climbing commands
